FCS HOW TO WAX YOUR SOFTBOARD

Here’s a few things you need to know about waxing your board.

1. Buy the right wax for the water temperature.

Hard wax for warm water, soft wax for cold. Generally, one type of wax will suffice, but if you’re after a pro-level wax job go with the base-coat + top coat combo.

2. Base-coat + top-coat combo.

Applying a base-coat + top-coat combo gives a longer lasting wax job because it won’t smudge as easily and it also produces a sticker feel. The thicker base coat is a harder wax that’s applied first, the softer top coat is applied last and only requires a few swipes.

3. The perfect wax job.

Use the edge of the block and drag it across the deck in thick lines on a 45 degree angle. Start at one end of the board and cover the desired area. Next, apply more diagonal lines, this time working in the opposite direction. Even pressure works best.

Now, make long strokes up and down the board, you should notice small bumps starting to form. Finally, start making circular motions until you can see small beads forming? Continue until the beads are 1-2mm in height.

It’s a good idea to give your board a light wax before every session, and a complete wax job overhaul every few months. Now you’re ready to shred!
